I Feel for You, the hit single by Rufus the front woman, is also widely recognized as a huge success. Rufus is her other band. Khan was raised as a Catholic. She attended the Hyde Park Saint Thomas the Apostle Church's elementary school. Her love for music to her grandmother, who introduced her to jazz as when she was a young child. Khan as a teenager at the time, became an avid lover of blues and rhythm music. At the age of 11, she started a group of girls called Crystalettes which included Taka. Khan joined the Black Panther Party in 1967 after becoming friends with Chicago-born activist Fred Hampton, a member of the Black Panther Party. She has stated that, despite the fact that many individuals believe that she was given the name Chaka during her time with the Panthers. Her name Chaka Adunne Aduffe Karifi hostarhi came to her when she was just 13 years old young from Yoruba Baba. She left in 1969 the Panthers and quit high school after having been to Calumet High School and Kenwood High School (now Kenwood Academy).
